Recommended Surge Brake Actuator For Demco DT6000 Trailer With Drum Brakes

Question:

Hello- I have an older Demco DT6000 trailer. I need a surge brake assembly for it. Can you recommend something that would work? Drum brakes. I dont mind modifying if needed. Would the tension bar at the bottom of my current setup go? Seems too much force is required to activate. Thanks!

I would be happy to help!

As long as the A-Frame on your trailer is the standard 50-degree angle then the best option to replace your current surge brake actuator would be the Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator w Drop - Drum - Primed - A-Frame - 2" Bulldog Coupler - 7,000 lb # DM8509612.

This actuator will weld right on to your A-frame, has a 7000lb trailer weight rating, uses a standard 2" hitch ball, and is designed specifically for drum brakes like your Demco DT6000 trailer has.

Now this kit does not include a lock out kit so you will need the Manual Reverse Lockout Kit for Demco Hydraulic Trailer Brake Actuators # DM5939. This will allow you to back up the trailer without the brakes engaging.

You will not need to reuse any parts of your current actuator.

I included a video of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
