Recommended Weight Distribution Hitch With Sway Control for Jayco X20E

Question:

How do I know if this hitch will work with my 2020 F150 with maximum tow package. We just towed our Jayco X20E across the country and back and exhibited large amounts of sway with cross winds and push / pull with tractor trailers passing us I found I needed to keep my speed down to help prevent trailer sway. Would this be a good choice for me?

When it comes to finding a weight distribution hitch the most important thing to consider is the loaded trailer tongue weight. If you choose one that is too light for your application, the hitch won't be effective. If you go too heavy, you'll suffer a rigid ride and a bouncy trailer.

Using the information I could find about the Jayco, the # RP66559 Reese system is probably too heavy. The specs from Jayco for the 2015 X20E list the dry tongue weight as 350 lbs. This does not include cargo, fresh water, propane gas, options or dealer-installed accessories which may increase or decrease the tongue weight. The dry weight of the Jayco X20E is listed as 3,580 lbs. It is also important to remember that any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2020 F150 will be included in your tongue weight.

Ideally you want a system where your tongue weight falls in the middle of the weight distribution hitches tongue weight range. If you could provide me with the tongue weight of your setup I would be happy to make a recommendation.

I have attached several help articles for your reference including an article on how to determine your tongue weight.
