I confirmed with Blue Ox that the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX1633, will fit on your 2002 Chevrolet 2500 HD and it will support the weight of your truck. Our website separates the vehicle fits for base plates because there are some base plates that will not fit the HD models, but this base plate will fit. Before you attempt to flat tow your truck, I recommend checking your owners manual for any flat towing limitations or restrictions that GM may have for your truck.

If you determine that it is safe to flat tow your truck, then the next factor that you will want to consider is choosing a properly rated tow bar. If you do not have a tow bar yet, I recommend using the Blue Ox Avail Tow Bar, # BX7420. This tow bar is rated for up to 10,000 lbs and would work well with your truck. This tow bar also includes two safety cables which are another required component to flat tow a vehicle.

If you do not already have them, the last two items that you will need to complete your flat towing setup are a wiring kit and a supplemental braking system.

For a wiring kit, there are a few options. If you do not plan on towing frequently, then you may be interested in the Standard Magnetic Tow Lights, # RM-2120. These magnetic lights are easy to install and use. If you will be towing frequently, then you may be interested in a more permanent option like the Roadmaster Diode Wiring Kit, # RM-154.

Most states now require the use of a supplemental braking system when flat towing. For a supplemental braking system, the Blue Ox Patriot, # BLU37TR, is a popular option because it is easy to set up and use.

I have attached the installation instructions for these items as well as a few FAQ articles on flat towing for you to check out.
