Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2013 Hyundai Sonata
Question:
Ive read a bunch of the reviews stating that the wieght of this rack with bikes on it dents the bumper and pulls the deck lid up some. I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata, and although the the car is nice, its deck lid does not seem so substanial. Neither does the bumper. I dont want to damage the car. My two bikes will be under 40 lbs, and I was wondering if anyone has reviewed this with the 2012 or 13 Sonata

The Thule OutWay platform style trunk mount rack # TH65JV is best suited for vehicles that have metal bumpers. This is because the rack itself is fairly heavy and then adding the weight of bikes to it can deform the less substantial bumpers on other vehicles.
I recommend a lighter rack like the regular OutWay hanging style rack # TH45JV. I own the 3 bike version of this rack and it is the easiest rack to use and install that I have ever used. It is much less likely that this rack or any of the other similar racks (see link) will dent the vehicle. Always make sure that the vehicle and the bike rack where they touch each other are clean to avoid scratching the vehicle.
For a hanging style bike rack if you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame tube that goes straight across (like a typical men's bike) I recommend using adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry these bikes more level and provide better ground clearance. I have included a link to a video showing how the adapter works.
