when using PK5231201 isolator does the truck need to be turned off when using the winch on trailer the trailer has its own battery

The Battery Isolation Solenoid, part # PK5231201, protects your tow vehicle battery from excessive drain when using 12V trailer accessories by isolating the vehicle battery. It is operated by the vehicle ignition switch, so in order to isolate the tow vehicle battery from current draw from the trailer winch, the tow vehicle ignition key does have to be in the off position. This will let the winch pull power from the trailer battery rather than the vehicle battery.

Please refer to the attached photo which indicates how the solenoid is to be wired. It is necessary that it mount to a metal surface to establish a ground connection.
