Should Lighter Off-Road Trailer Have Brakes Added
Question:
I AM STARTING TO TURN MY 1994 STARCRAFT TENT TRAILER INTO MORE OF A OFF ROAD STYLE. CURRENTLY IT HAS NO TRAILER BRAKES SINCE IT ONLY 1000 LB. I PLAN ON INSTALLING A 2200 LB TIBREN AXLE LESS KIT. WOULD IT BE A SMART IDEA TO PUT BRAKES ON IT AND REWIRE FOR THAT OR WOULD THE WIEGHT BE LIGHT ENOUGH TO NOT NEED BRAKES. ANY TIPS WOULD BE HELPFUL.

Expert Reply:
In off-road situations it's gets a little more tricky with adding brakes to the trailer and having them actuate properly since the terrain changes a lot and traction is really inconsistent. I'd go with the part # ASR1THDS02 and idler hubs like the # 84545UC1-EZ and you'd be set.
