Recommended 7-way Connector and Trailer Brake Controller For 2019 Mini Countryman S ALL4
Question:
Hello. I have a 2019 Mini Countryman S ALL4. 2019 Countrymans are known as model F60 I would like to purchase an ultralite travel trailer to pull behind it. The Countryman currently has no trailer wiring whatsoever. The trailer has electric brakes, as well as a deep cycle battery that needs to be charged by the tow vehicle while driving. It has a 7-way blade connector for the wiring. What products do I need to install on the Countryman to operate the trailers lights, electric brakes, and to charge its deep cycle battery? Thanks

To install a 7-way connector on your 2019 Mini Countryman S ALL4 you will need to first install a 4-way connector using the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C59236. This will get spliced into the factory wiring of your Mini, and using a circuit tester # PTW2993 will help to identify the functions of your factory wiring.
With a 4-way connector installed I recommend the # ETBC7L with the Curt Echo Wireless # C51180. The # ETBC7L will plug into your newly installed 4-way connector and just require you to run the black wire to the positive terminal of your vehicles battery with the included 40 amp circuit breaker, and ground the white wire to the frame. This power wire will power the # C51180 and give a maintenance charge to your trailers battery.
The # C51180 will plug directly into the 7-way connector and will not require you to run any wires inside of the passenger compartment nor will it require you to drill holes in your dash to mount a controller.
To mount the 7-way connector to your Mini I recommend the Curt # C58000 if you have a 2" trailer hitch receiver or if you have a 1-1/4" receiver then I you will need to mount the 7-way directly to your vehicles bumper.
If you do not already have a trailer hitch receiver I recommend going with the EcoHitch Hidden Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - 2" # 306-X7387 as it is the only receiver available for your vehicle that has a 2" receiver which is always preferred as it gives the most options when it comes to accessories such as a ball mount to tow your trailer.
I included video reviews of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
