SH Error Code On Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller After Getting Wet

Question:

Brake controller with SH code while driving 2010 Honda Pilot without trailer in tow. Reads 00 when brakes applied. Received SH error code after heavy rain through open driver side window while car parked. Could rain have damaged brake controller mounted under dash?

The "SH" error code on the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885 per the owner's manual can be caused by one of two different things. I have listed these for you below:

1. Brake wire sees short during idle condition.
2. Use of some test lights or non-Tekonsha testers can cause this problem.

If the brake controller got wet this could very well be the cause of the problem and in which case the unit would need to be replaced.
