How to Use 5th Wheel Hitch for 2018 Chevy OEM Prep on 2020 or newer Chevy/GMC OEM Prep

Question:

Hello, I have a 2018 Sierra 2500 long bed with the GM puck system and just ordered a 2022 Silverado 2500 long bed. I’ve heard the puck system changed and a fifth wheel hitch from a 2018 GM truck no longer works for any GM truck 2020 and up? If true is there an adaptor to get my hitch to fit the 2020+ Silverado or do I have to buy a whole new hitch? Thank you.

This is correct and what your options are depend on what 5th wheel hitch you've currently got. If you've got a Curt 5th wheel hitch that fit into your 2018 Sierra pucks then you would typically be able to swap the legs for a new puck system and just re-use the head; for example you'd use the # CU53FR to adapt a Curt A or Q series hitch head to a 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500 with the OEM prep package.

The Demco # DM6333 adapter you were looking at would work if you had a hitch that fit into standard base rails, but does not adapt old pucks to new pucks.

If you can let me know what type of hitch you had for the 2018 OEM pucks I can see if replacement legs are available.
