Do I Need A LED Bulb Out Adapter When Using A Brake Controller On my 2012 Porsche Cayenne?
Question:
Hi - Our 2012 Porsche Cayenne has 7 way factory pin. I just need brake controller for towing small RV trailer. Is part C51180 enough to get brake controller function? Unclear if well also need part C57003. Thank you!

The Curt 7-Way Trailer Adapter # C57003 is only needed for trailers that have LED taillights. There are internal resistors that will make the computer on your 2012 Porsche Cayenne sense that it is connected to a trailer as the LED light do not draw as much power as incandescent bulbs. If your trailer does not have LED taillights then the adapter is not needed.
I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 with the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter # TK22FR on your Cayenne. With having the factory wiring the wiring adapter will make the installation plug and play. The Prodigy P3 is a proportional controller that will automatically adjust to light or hard breaking.
I typically do no recommend the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180 with vehicles that have the 7-way connection angled towards the ground. It adds 6-5/8" to the connection and will typically put the wiring lower than parts of the vehicle and trailer putting the wiring at greater risk of being damaged. Check this with your current setup to determine if there is enough room for the controller.
