Tips on Installing the Prodigy RF Trailer Brake Controller on a 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

Got the RF controller today so will be installing the ETBC7 to go from 4 to 7 pin along with the Tekonsha Prodigy. Thought Id ask if there are gotchas to look out for. I went through the documentation and your online info but thought Id ask just in case there is something I missed. One bit of info that I found various answers to is the circuit breaker to use. Should I be using the 40amp with the #10 wire in the kit, 20amp? or should I increase wire to #8. Ill be towing a small camper trailer and will be looking to charge its battery while under way.

On the # ETBC7 for the 12 volt circuit (black wire) you will use the 40 amp circuit breaker and the included wire. The 20 and 30 amp circuit breakers are for a different application and you will not need them for the RF, # TK94FR. The 12 volt circuit on a 7-Way can maintain a charge level on a battery but it cannot charge it up. There is too much distance and not enough amperage to push a charging current to the battery.

I recommend using a separate battery charger like # CTEK56674 to charge up the battery when you have access to AC power.

One thing to look out for when installing the RF is that at one point, the instructions will tell you that you should see a flashing 0.0 or P.A, or nc. Sometimes it will not appear. And a lot of people will stop at that point and think there is a problem. For some reason, it does not always display as it should and you just need to keep going through the instructions and it will pair up just fine.

I have linked a video review and the instructions for the RF brake controller.
