Will the RockyMounts Split Rail LS Fit a Spare Tire on a 2012 Toyota Rav 4?

Question:

I have a 2012 Toyota Rav4. It has the spare tire on the back and a rear door not a lift hatch. I recently purchased a Specialized Como e-bike and I am hoping this rack might fit my vehicle. Please advise. Thank you.

I have a great alternative for you. In order to determine if the RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 # RKY11404 will clear your spare tire on your Toyota Rav 4, I recommend measuring the center hitch pin hole to the end of the spare tire. We have tested the etrailer hitch receiver # 98864, and we discovered that there is about 8 inches from the pinhole and the end of the spare tire on a 2012 Toyota RAV 4. With this measurement on similar hitches to the etrailer hitch receiver # 98864, the RockyMounts SplitRail LS 2 will not clear your spare tire because the closes part of the rack folded up is only 6-1/2 inches. I went ahead and attached a video of this measurement below the answer (the measurement appears at time stamp 2:18).

For a great alternative, I recommend the Swagman E-Spec Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount # S94FR. The Swagman E-Spec measures 10-1/2 inches from the center pinhole to the closest part of the rack (when folded up). The E-Spec attaches at the frame instead of the wheels, so you will need to purchase a Swagman Bike Frame Adapter Bar for Electric, Step Through, and Cruiser Bikes # S57FR if you have a Como e-bike that is a step-through, women's, or cruiser style frame.

You can also add the Kuat Pivot # PVP20B to completely avoid the swinging door. It is important to note that when using the Pivot, you reduce your hitch's weight capacity by 50%.

If you need a hitch receiver for your vehicle, I recommend the previously mentioned etrailer hitch receiver # 98864. The etrailer receiver is compatible with the E-Spec and comes with complete installation hardware for a bolt-on installation.
