Will Trailer Hub and Drum # 84546UC3-EZ Fit an ALKO 3500 Pound Axle

Question:

I am looking for equivalent replacements for Al-Ko Part # 363219 5 on 4.5. The exact same inner and outer bearing cones and cups are utilized as is indicated for this etrailer hub, as well as both using 10inch x 2.25inch brakes. I dont believe there is a questions as to the Dexter fitting my axles spindle, but my concern from the picture on your website is that the Dexter appears to be cast slightly different. If the casting difference is only cosmetic - NO PROBLEM. However,if the raised radial casting where the Wheel lugs and wheel dish mate is thicker, as it appears in the website photo, I am concerned about outer side tire clearance in the RV wheel well. If someone could actually pull one of these from the box in your stock inventory and measure a couple of critical dimensions, it would either verify or refute compatibility. Dimensions of the Al-Ko hub as measured with 6inch Caliper for comparison: Lay hub upside down on outer bearing boss. Place straight edge across open drum side and measure down to seal boss end. -1.10 Turn back over with OPEN brake side down . . . place straight edge over wheel mount boss face and measure to benchtop 3.40, which would make the seal boss face to wheel mount face 3.40inch - 1.10inch = 2.30. This dimension will determine if the wheel / tire assembly track in the exact same location. Next place the straight edge across the outer bearing boss end and measure down to benchtop 5.20. If these measurements are taken with a small rule and are within 1/16inch - 1/8inch .06 -.13 then wheel track offset / difference is TOLERABLE, otherwise Ill have to go with the Original Al-Ko hubs. Shall await your response before placing order.

I read through the other question you sent and I can clear some things up for you. First, the ALKO axle brake mounting flanges have a different bolt pattern than do Dexter or similar assemblies when you go up to a 12 inch brake assembly and that is why they will not fit ALKO axles. The top mounting holes on an ALKO mounting flange are wider than they are on a Dexter.

But on a 10x2-1/4 inch brake assembly the 4 bolt pattern should be the same. So you can use other 10x2-1/4 inch assemblies on the ALKO axle.

You can use a Dexter hub and drum assembly on the ALKO axle too provided that the bearing numbers match. You will need to go by the inner and outer bearing numbers on the trailer to find the correct hub and drum.

I went out to the warehouse and took the 3 measurements you wanted for hub and drum # 84546UC3-EZ. For the first measurement I got 1-1/6 inches (1.0625). For the second measurement I got 3-7/16 inches (3.4375). And for the last measurement I got 5-3/16 inches (5.1875). So it looks like it is going to work for you.
