Finding the Stop Light Wire to Install a Trailer Brake Controller on a 1999 Chevy Blazer

I have a 1999 S10 LT 4.9 blazer having trouble locating pre brake wire for the red wire on Hopkins Agility unit

The basic process for finding the correct wire to attach the brake controller red wire is to start by locating the brake switch above the brake pedal. Using a circuit test such as # PTW2979 , probe the wires until you find the one that shows a signal only when the brake pedal is pressed. You may need to have the key in the ON position. If you find a wire that has power with the turn signals or running lights also it is not the correct wire.

If you cannot find the correct wire you could tap into the stop light/CHMSL circuit by using a fuse tap, like # F2526, in the appropriate fuse under the hood. Use the owners manual to find the the stop light/CHMSL fuse location. You will have to run the wire through the fire wall to the brake controller.
