To install a traditional style brake controller like the # 90195 Tekonsha P3 on a 2017 Toyota Tacoma, you'll need to first install the 7-way vehicle wiring harness, part # 22117 which essentially will provide you with the factory tow package and allow the install of a Tekonsha brake controller like the P3 you'd looked at. If you're looking for a controller that's a bit more reasonably priced, the Brake EVN # TK63VR would also work well for you.
The P3 provides 5 user presets that allow you to set up profiles for 5 different trailers or users. It also features a full LCD display that spells out any faults in the trailer braking system, rather than using alpha-numeric error codes like the Brake EVN does. The P3 is also compatible with electric over hydraulic braking systems, while the Brake EVN is compatible with electric brake only.
If you will be towing frequently, using different trailers or if you aren't too familiar with using a brake controller, the P3 might be a better choice as it'll be easier to use. If you aren't planning on towing very often and you're familiar with how brake controllers work, then the lower-cost I-Command would be a great choice.
I'll link to some product videos for both controllers that you might find helpful.
