I saw your answer regarding the X5. Is there a recommendation for the 17 Q7? And what do you think about trailer mounted contollers eg towbrake vs ones like the Curt. thanks

For your 2017 Audi Q7 with the Stealth Hitches Hidden Trailer Hitch # 391AUDQ716T installed I recommend the Redarc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR as it is the lowest profile trailer brake controller so it will not be bulky and in the way, and often looks like a factory option.

This controller is proportional meaning that it will match the braking intensity of the trailer brakes to the intensity you apply the brakes in your Q7 for a smooth, safe stop. You will also need # 5506 to run the blue brake output wire from the 7-way to where ever you decide to mount the controller.

I prefer a controller like the # RED44FR over a trailer mounted controller as it is much easier to apply the manual override as you just press the button, compared to other trailer mounted controllers.

The only exception to this is really if you tow the same trailer with multiple different vehicles. If this is the case then I would go with a trailer mounted controller like the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller w/ Bluetooth # TK94FR.

The down side of having a controller mounted in the trailer is if you change trailers, or tow a different trailer every once in a while you do not have have a controller in the vehicle and would not be able to tow the trailer.

The Curt Echo # C51180 somewhat fixes that issue as it works in any vehicle that has a functioning 7-way connector, but due to the 7-way connector on the stealth hitch pointing down you would not want to go this route as it would have the controller and trailer wiring very close to the ground and could easily get damaged.
