Will the Curt Echo Work Correctly Laying Loose in the Back of a 2017 Toyota Sienna

Question:

Hi there, I am considering using the Curt Echo in my Toyota Sienna. However, I had planned to just have my 4way/7way wires tucked away in the rear compartment of my van instead of running them outside and mounting to the hitch permanently. If I were to do this, can I just plug in the Echo and leave it looseinch in the back of my van or does it need to be firmly mounted inline with the vehicle to get the telemetry data it needs or does that all come from the phone?

The Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller - 1 to 2 Axles - Proportional # C51180 is a proportional brake controller. This means that it must be mounted in the direction of travel and cannot lean or be tilted left or right. It will not work correctly if you leave it loose in the back of your 2017 Toyota Sienna.

The Echo Smart Control App on your phone is used to control the brake settings, calibrate output, and monitor braking activity. The triple-axis accelerometer is located within the Curt controller and it continues to operate independently at the current settings even if your phone dies.

I have attached a review of the controller for your reference.
