Is Switching to a Smaller Size but Higher Capacity Tire Ok?

Question:

I currently have Goodyear Endurance ST255/85R16 Radial Tires would like to go to Westlake ST235/85R16 Radial Tires. I know the speed rating the width and outer diameter are different could this be a problem. Just like the 14 ply vs 10 ply. This is on a 2020 Jayco 5th wheel 7000lb dexter axles.

Going with a slightly smaller, yet higher capacity tire will definitely not be a problem. The Goodyear Endurance ST255/85R16 # 724862519 has an outer diameter of 33.07 inches and a section width of 10.04 inches. The Westlake ST235/85R16 # LHAXSO513B will have an outer diameter of 31.7 inches and a section width of 9.3 inches. So between the 2, there really isn't that much of a difference there.

The big difference is the weight capacity and speed rating. The # LHAXSO513B will up the capacity of the tire to 4,080 pounds at 110 psi, but will lower your speed rating to an L, or 75 miles per hour.

If you are ok with using a slightly smaller and lower speed rating, but a higher capacity, I highly recommend the # LHAXSO513B.
