Recommended Solution to Keep 2016 Ford Fiesta Battery Charged During Flat Towing

Question:

I flat tow my manual Fiesta. The ignition being on kills the battery. Is there any reason to not leave the engine running while its being towed? How is it different that coasting downhill in neutral? I did it once for about 60 miles. The only difference seemed to be tighter braking when I applied my rv brakes with any force. That and it did start up with no jump needed. The vehicle seems fine but theres conflicting pieces all over chats. Thanks.

It sounds like your supplemental braking system is probably draining the battery, and each vehicle has it's own flat towing processes that need to be followed. I can't say that I would recommend flat towing with the vehicle running but you can add a charge line to your vehicle with the Roadmaster Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25. This will allow you to use the charge line on your RV's 7 way connector to charge your battery during travel. If you don't have a charge line on your 7 way you can use the # RM-156-75 to install one.

This is our most popular solution for keeping your battery in working order during flat towing.
