Troubleshooting Aux Battery Not Charging when Blower is On
Question:
I have a 2005 Silverado 4.3 liter engine work truck regular cab. The unit works great unless I run my blower motor on any speed. With the blower on, aux battery doesnt charge. The Alternator is 145 amps. Do I need to upsize the alternator? If so, recommended amperage? All lights on charger show no issue.

Expert Reply:
Vehicle alternators really are only designed for charging a single battery since that is the standard application. I'm not totally shocked yours stops charging the aux battery when the blower is on as most likely you just don't have the extra amperage. I'd recommend going with an upgraded alternator.
