One of the main differences between the Thule Gateway Pro 2 # TH88VR and the Saris Bones 2 # SA805BL is that the Gateway Pro 2 includes an integrated cable lock that secures the bikes to the rack. Even though the Saris Bones 2 does not include a lock that secures your bikes to the rack, you can purchase the Saris Cable Lock - 8' Long # SA981 to get that added security. Also, for both the Gateway Pro 2 and the Saris Bones 2, you can purchase the Thule Passive Security Strap for Trunk Mounted Bike Carriers # TH533. This will ensure that the bike is safely secured to the vehicle to prevent the theft of the rack.
Another difference is that the Gateway Pro 2 includes the patented FitDial system which makes sure that the rack has a perfectly snug fit with your vehicle. The FitDial has a specific setting in the instruction manual that is specific to your 2013 Subaru Outback. With this system, it has an advantage of extra security to your vehicle.
In light of these differences, I recommend the Thule Gateway Pro 2 # TH88VR. It is a great bike rack that will definitely get the job done.
