Eliminating Rear Suspension Sag of 2011 Acura MDX When Towing

Question:

I tow a Casita travel trailer about 2900 lbs. fully loaded, probably 450 lbs. tongue weight and my 2011 Acura MDX does a great job but sags quite a bit in the back as well as lifts up the front see photo. I would like to use a weight distributing hitch but the manual says it is not recommended. I dont really understand why or if it is just legal indemnification on their part. I see you recommend certain WDHs for my vehicle, have you ever heard of any reason to not use one on an MDX? Thank you.

The owner's manual of your 2011 Acura MDX states that 'A weight distributing hitch is not recommended for use with your vehicle, as an improperly adjusted weight distributing hitch may reduce handling, stability, and braking performance.'

Given that, I'd use a different method of reducing the rear end sag. Air helper springs such as # AL60815 can be pressurized up to 35 psi when towing to add additional support to the rear suspension, and aired down to a minimum of 5 psi when not towing. When aired down, the air helper springs won't have any effect on the vehicle's ride characteristics.
