Can you Use a Kayak Carrier on a Headache Rack

Question:

I would like to make these work on a head ache rack and rear hoop rack. The rack bars are 2 1/2inch wide and 1 1/2inch deep. I would bolt the carrier directly to the rack by adding rivet nut s. Could you send any more detail on the mounting points / fastener size?

I don't recommend using a kayak carrier and kayak on a headache rack. This are not meant to carry accessories and don't have ratings for the weight they can handle. Another problem with the particular rack that you mentioned, the Thule Hull-A-Port, part # TH849000, is that they need C-channels to mount. These are mostly not found on headache racks.

Instead of this, your best bet is to use a ladder rack. Since you already have a headache rack, you will need to mount your carrier and kayak higher than the headache rack.

I recommend the Thule Xsporter Pro Adjustable Height Truck Bed Ladder Rack, part # TH500XT. It's compatible with your 2013 GMC Sierra and extends 30" above your bed. They have the C-channels (T-slots) that will allow you to use the Hull-A-Port. I've linked to a video review of the Xsporter Pro below.
