Do Punch Plates Cause Cooling Issues for a Transmission
Question:
Does the punch plate cause any cooling issues for the pickup such as engine, tranny?

Expert Reply:
Punch plates on grille guards like the Westin HDX Grille Guard with Punch Plate, part # 57-1915, have more of a mesh style to them. This allows more airflow than a solid surface.
Of course, you will still need to monitor your transmission and engine. If you notice that your transmission is getting too hot (probably if you have an older one), then you can use one of our transmission coolers. I've linked to a list of our coolers that are compatible with your 2004 Chevrolet Silverado. If you let me know which engine you have, I can recommend which one will work best for you.
