Parts to Install Redarc RED24FR Tow Pro Liberty in 2020 Toyota Tacoma with 4 Pole Trailer Connector
Question:
Im going to install this on a 2020 Toyota Tacoma Sport truck. There is an existing wiring harness for a trailer. Will I need an additional wiring harness or do I just tie into the existing harness? The harness on the vehicle currently is a 4 wire. Id like to keep it a 4 wire if possible... Thanks

If your Tacoma only has the 4-pole, the vehicle isn't prewired for a brake controller and in order to carry the voltage to the trailer brakes, you'll need a 7-way trailer connector since that should be the connector your trailer has on it. If the trailer doesn't have a 7-way, then either the trailer doesn't have brakes or perhaps it's a boat trailer with a surge coupler.
In any event, if you want to install a brake controller, you'll need to install a 7-way trailer connector along with it. Tekonsha offers part # 22117 which will equip your Tacoma with the same function as the factory tow package. In addition to the Redarc # RED24FR Tow-Pro Liberty, you'll also need a # RED69FR pigtail and a
# 331-TPH-017 adapter which will allow yo to plug in the controller to the connector provided by the
# 22117.
The control knob for the # RED24FR Liberty can be installed into the dash or console, or if there's an unused switch knockout, you can use a mounting bezel like # 331-TPSI-002 so it'll look like a factory install.
I'll link to a video showing how the Tow-Pro Liberty works.
