What Size Battery Should Be Used With 13,000lb Winch?

Question:

I bought a Stegodon 13000 lb cap winch a year ago and was going to use my GMC Duramax battery for power. I would like to change and use a stand alone battery as power and would like your input on lithium or acid. Also, the winch did not come with CCA or any other spec and they cannot be found on the net. Thank You

A standard lead acid battery would be sufficient for your winch. I couldn't find the owner's manual online for the Stegodon 13,000lb winch but most winches of that size, such as the Bulldog Winch 12,000lb # BDW10040, require a battery with 650cca or higher. You could go with a deep cycle marine battery to last longer since they are made to be drained then recharged frequently, but you could just go with a standard lead acid 12v battery if you don't think you will be using it on the daily.
