Does light on Reese POD controller supposed to come on when brake applied when no trailer hooked up?

I spoke with Reese about your POD controller.
When you apply the brakes with no trailer hooked up, the light will flash red briefly. It should turn off shortly.
However, if it stays on, then there may be a problem with the blue wire. Trace this wire to look for frays or corrosion. If you see any, you will need to replace it. Problems with this wire will "trick" the controller into believing that there is a trailer hooked up.
You might also test your 7-way with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 to make sure everything is working properly there.
