Determining Correct Replacement Slipper Springs For 1982 TeeNee Trailer

Question:

How can I determine the correct replacement leaf spring for this trailer. Current 3 leaf is longer than 30 inches so it doesn’t look like it will fit. Any help would be appreated. This was the standard flying scot sail boat trailer in its time

I would be happy to help!

First you will need to measure the slipper springs on your 1982 TeeNee trailer from the center of the spring eye to the end of the spring as shown in the included diagram, and the width of the spring. You will need to jack up the trailer and secure it with jacks stands to take the weight off of the spring before measuring as if there is weight on the spring it will stretch and give you an inaccurate measurement.

Second you will need to determine the weight rating of your axle. There should be an axle tag on the center of your axle that has the axle rating. If the tag is missing you will need to divide the GVWR of the trailer by the number of axles to get an idea of the weight rating.

The amount of leaves is not important as long as the spring is for the correct axle weight.

The 3-Leaf Slipper Spring w/ Flat End for 2,900-lb Trailer Axles - 30" Long # SP-039275 you were looking at is 30" long x 1-3/4" long and is designed for 2900lb axles. Keep in mind that springs do stretch a bit as they get worn, so your current spring may be 1" or so longer.

If you can provide the information mentioned above I would be happy to recommend the correct replacement slipper springs for your trailer.

I included a video of the # SP-039275 for you to take a look at.
