Clearance of Swagman Platform Bike Carrier S64663 On 2000 Jeep TJ Wrangler
Question:
I have a Curt rear hitch on my 2000 Jeep TJ standard tires and suspension. I am considering this bike carrier, but I have concerns about clearance of the 2inch x 2inch bar that will stick out of the back of the receiver. How far back out of the receiver does this bar extend?

My contact at Swagman advises that the back edge of the main 2 x 2 inch horizontal tube will extend back 16 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole on your receiver. I have included a measured drawing of this carrier that will help illustrate.
Another common concern for owners of vehicles with rear-mounted spare tires is clearance for the spare.
You can determine the position of the Swagman Platform Bike Carrier, Part # S64663, when mounted on your 2000 Jeep TJ by measuring back from the center of the hitch pin hole on your Curt hitch receiver. From the center of the hole back 4 inches is where the nearest edge of the first wheel hoop will be. From that same point measure back 10-1/2 inches to find the nearest edge of the upright bar.
I have linked an article that might be helpful to you as you consider bike carrier options. If you scroll down below the photos you will see a chart on the left listing bike carriers for 2-inch hitch receivers. This list is sorted by clearance distance from the center of the hitch pin hole. Generally platform-type carriers will offer less clearance from the hitch pin hole than hanging-type carriers.
I have also included a link to our product pages for 2-inch hitch-mount 2-bike carriers, both hanging and platform types. You can use the product filters on the left-hand side to narrow the items to those with the characteristics you prefer.
