Troubleshooting LED Tail Light On Sand Rail Not Working After Installing New Dash Module

Question:

I have a VW sand rail that had LED 3 wire tail lights for Running/turn/stop lights. I bought a Signal Dynamics turn signal module to eliminate the flasher and have auto cancelling turn signals. This module was not to have brake light function so I bought a pair of Incandescent 2 wire tail lights and spliced them into the same wires that powered the LED Lights. After some shorts and burned wires while installing a new dash module my LED lights dont function any more but the Incandescent light work fine. What is puzzling me is they are running of the same wires. The LEDs were on the vehicle first. What could have happened and how do I fix it. The LEDs are solid state or circuit board type lights meaning there is not separate bulb to replace. You would have to replace the entire circuit board encased in round red plastic.

It is possible when wires were shorting while installing a new dash module to LED lights were damaged.

I recommend unhooking the LED lights and testing them by connecting them directly to a 12v battery. If they come on then there is a wiring issue, if they do not come on then the lights are damaged and will need to be replaced.

I would not run both the incandescent lights and LED lights off the same wire as you could be overloading the circuit.

Both lights should have their own wiring.

If you find your LED lights are damaged just send me a picture of the light showing how they mount and the dimensions of the lights and I would be happy to recommend a replacement for you.
