Which Direction Do You Mount the Shocks In a Lippert Bolt On Shock Kit

Hello, I have a 2021 Jayco eagle 30.5 CKTS 5th wheel. The instruction manual for the LC283280 shocks show the upper mount towards the fixed eye leaf spring. All of the 5th wheel shocks i have seen, the upper mount goes toward the equalizer shackle. Does it make a difference, should i follow the installation manual. Thank you for your time

When installing a shock kit like the Lippert Bolt-On Shock Kit w/ Heavy Duty Gas Shocks - 5,200-lb to 7,000-lb (3") Axle # LC281281 or using the # LC283280 you will want to install the shock so the lower connection to the axle U-bolt plate happens closest to the equalizer as shown in the directions diagram.

Part of the reason for the orientation of this particular kit is because of the brackets, which might explain the differences that you're seeing in orientation; it's possible that maybe you've seen coaches with the Roadmaster Comfort Ride # RM-2450 which has the shocks similarly oriented to how you may be familiar with but still performing the same function as the Lippert kit. These units provide the same function, but are just mounted differently.

While it's not going to be possible to install your shocks straight up and down (as would be optimal), allowing them to work in conjunction with the moving parts of the leaf spring suspension is the next best solution to provide shock absorbing capabilities. Both of these kits provide the same support, just with a bit different design, so the installation will be specific to the Lippert kit and you should follow the instructions.
