How to Wire a Dexter Axle Predator Brake Controller 58-8 on a 2001 GMC Sierra
Question:
I have a 2001 GMC Sierra that Im getting ready for towing. My truck does not have the factory plug at the back so I ordered HM40975-11998 Pollak 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets w/ Mounting Bracket and Wiring - Vehicle End to connect to my trailer wiring plug. I watched the video on how to wire the pig tail and it states to not use the light blue factory wire and two of the pigtail wires. Would I use the factory light blue wire and one of the pig tail wires for wiring the trailer breaks?

The light blue wire mentioned in the video of the # HM40975-11998 7 and 4-pole trailer connector being installed on a 2002 Silverado is for a camper shell brake light, and is not for use with an electric brake controller.
The electric brake wire on your 2001 GMC Sierra is run from the port below the dash into the engine compartment, but it does not continue back to the rear wiring bundle. You will need to finish the connection by running a wire from the 7-Way in the rear of the truck up to the engine compartment. You will find the blue electric brake wire taped to a red wire under the hood, on the cab side of the junction box. The red wire will be used to provide power to the brake controller.
See the included picture for a look at the wires I mentioned, and I am also including a link to an FAQ that shows how to access these wires and how to finish the rest of the connections for the 7-Way plug.
If you are installing the # 58-8 Dexter Axle Predator brake controller you referenced, you will use brake control wiring adapter # 3025-S to plug the unit into the factory port under the dash. The four wires will be matched color to color.
I am including links to an FAQ on general brake controller information and to the video you referenced, if needed.
