Have they fixed the threads on the bolt and nut. I read several reviews saying the threads got buggered up when taking it off

Yes.

Lets Go Aero redesigned the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Span # 63232 you were looking at a few years back to prevent the issue of the bolt freezing in the block.

I do however recommend removing the lock completely from your trailer hitch receiver when you are done towing to prevent it from being overly exposed to the elements which could cause rust or corrosion to form.
