Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2009 Chevy Cobalt LT Sedan
Question:
I cant tell whether I need a 523137-1 or a 523157-1 baseplate for my 2009 Chevrolet CobaltLT sedan. I dont what grill s are. The bumper has permanent grill on the bottom but it is not replaceable. According to roadmaster instructions you have to cot the ends of the grill off. Another question I have is what bolts on to the removable twist lock brackets. I have a Falcon 2250 towbar that I use to tow my Jeep. I want to be able tow either the jeep or the Cobalt. The Jeep has brackets that bolt to the bumper. The end of the Falcon tow bad is like a cylinder and you place it inside the bracket and slide a pin thru it. Are these brackets available or will I have to have some fabricated? As soon as I know what to order I will place my order.

I spoke with my contact at Roadmaster who stated that if the lower grille pieces are removable then that indicates it has grille inserts and you would use # 523137-1 that you have referenced. If your lower grille has 3 sections like in the pictures for the base plates then that is the correct set. To be sure though you can take a picture and email it to me and I can determine which would be correct.
Your Falcon 5250 should have some Quick Disconnects, # RM-201, to go from the tow bar to the base plates. If the tow bar you have is mission the base assembly also you would need # 910021-00.
For both your Jeep and Cobalt make sure to check the owners manual to make sure they can be flat towed and if there are any special requirements. You will also need safety cables like # RM-643.
For lighting, since you will be towing 2 vehicles I recommend the Roadmaster # RM-2120 magnetic tow lights. You will also need supplemental braking in both vehicles. You can use the Even Brake # RM-9400 and then add a second vehicle kit, # RM-98400, to make it easy to move it between the 2 vehicles.
You will ant to add a 12 volt outlet for the Cobalt, # RM-9332 and a stop light switch kit # RM-751200. I have included some helpful links on flat towing for you to review also.
