Recommended Hitch Receiver for 2007 Honda Pilot

Question:

I see three different models of 2” hitch that fit the 2007 Honda Pilot. Two of them look to have a tab behind the receiver that creates a third point of attachment. I will put a bike rack that holds four bikes on the vehicle. Is choosing one with that third point of attachment important?

While that tab does provide a third anchor point, the maximum tow weight is 3500lbs and the maximum tongue weight is 350lbs. These ratings are the same for each of the three hitch options. My pick of the three would be the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2", part # 75599. It is a 2" Class III hitch like the other options but it's hitch pin center to bumper measurement, is 3 1/4" with a hitch height of 17 3/4".. The shorter distance of the center of the pitch hole to bumper measurement means you will be less likely to run into fit issues because of the shank length of accessories. The higher hitch height means you will less ground clearance issues when entering driveways or encountering speed bumps.

You will also need a bike rack to pair with this hitch receiver. I recommend the Kuat Sherpa 2.0 Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches, part # SH22G. It is a platform bike hitch rack that clamps to your wheels, protecting your frame in the process. It can tilt down while carrying bikes so you still have access to the rear of your vehicle.

I have attached links below.
