Why Do Some Fifth Wheel Hitch Head Handles Point Up and Not Down

Question:

I have a Curt Q24 puck system for my 3500 DW Long bed Ram. I’ve had to mount the hitch at its highest setting to accommodate the king pin height on my Momentum to clear the tonneau Peregon rails. However, the Q-24’s handle for hitching is angled upward. It extends above the saddle and interferes with the tonneau cover when not towing. Is there a way to modify the handle so that it does not get so high? I thought of cutting the handle, as I don’t need all that length. Why Curt shaped the handle upwards rather than horizontal, or down is beyond me. Any suggestions?

The reason the fifth wheel hitch handle releases are pointed upwards is to make them easier to grab while you are standing outside of the truck. Since there isn't a way to modify your handle to make it point down the only option you'd have would be a newer hitch that has a handle that does not point upwards like the B and W Companion part # BWRVK3600.
