Trouble Locating Green Wire For 12 Gauge Blue Wire To Connect With
Question:
I am installing this in my 2020 Durango R/T. My vehicle did not have the factory tow package or wiring to the rear of the vehicle. By reading others’ comments, I’ve figured out everything except where the 12 gauge blue wire connects in the passenger’s side behind the front wheel. The wiring harness located there on my truck doesn’t have a green wire in it. The only green wire in mine is light green with a yellow stripe. Do they have any pics of where I can find this green wire? And I understand I’m supposed to use a butt connector, so I’m supposed to cut the wire? Which direction am I supposed to connect to? When is this wire powered? ...so I can check to see if I have the correct wire. Is there someone I can call to talk to about this issue while I’m working on it?

The 12 gauge blue wire is the brake controller output. If you have a brake controller installed then you will be able to test the wire for signal when the brake controller is sending power to the trailer. I was able to find a picture that a customer sent in of the wire and included that below. You can see that he simply used wire tap and not a butt connector. You will need to connect this with the wire side that is coming from the control module and not the side that runs toward the back of the vehicle.
If you do not have a brake controller yet the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 is the one I recommend. This is a proportional brake controller that will self adjust to light and severe braking.
