That's a good question and the answer is yes, the Curt Adapter 4 Pole to 7 Pole and 4 Pole with Test Lamps # C57674 is the same as the Curt Trailer Connector Adapter - 4-Way to 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat # C57672 but with the exception that one has test lamps and the other does not. Otherwise, they serve the exact same function as a 4-way to 7-way adapter.
As for the brake controller for your 2021 Subaru Outback, since you are looking for something simple and basic, I recommend going with a time delay controller. These are the simplest controllers, as you only need to set the amount of braking power you want to send back to your trailer brakes and that's it. There is no need to mount them at a specific angle or anything else, they just give your trailer really good stopping power at the level you deem necessary.
The time delayed controllers are also the best value among brake controllers, which is another reason I really like them, and the best option for your '21 Outback is from Tekonsha; you will also need the wiring harness:
- Tekonsha PowerTrac Electronic Brake Controller # 39523
- Brake Control Harness # 20127
I have added links below to some video reviews for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
