Why Is Blue Ox Sway Pro Listed As Only For Minor Sway?

Question:

Hello. I have an Airstream that weights ~6000 lbs with a tongue weight of approximately 600 lbs. I will be towing with a 2021 Ford F150. I was looking at the Blue Ox Sway Pro and noticed the info by Lindsay S that this is recommended if you only experience relatively minor trailer sway. Why is this one only good for minor or occasional sway and what would you recommend for more sever sway? Thank you

The reason the Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control - Clamp On - Underslung - 10K GTW, 1K TW # BXW1003 is only good for minor sway is due to the only sway control being the tension on the chain.

If you are expecting to have more severe sway, or would rather have a system that has better built in sway control I recommend the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System w/ 4-Point Sway Control - 10,000 lbs GTW, 1,000 lbs TW # EQ37100ET which has built in 4-point sway control that does an awesome job of fighting sway. This hitch works with total tongue weights between 600-1000lbs so it will likely work perfectly on your Airstream as you mentioned you are going to have around 600lbs of tongue weight.

Keep in mind that the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2021 Ford F-150 will count as tongue weight for a weight distribution hitch, so you may even have higher tongue weight than you are expecting.

I included a video of the # EQ37100ET for you to take a look at.
