Options For Using A Cargo Carrier On A Subaru Outbacks 1-1/4 Trailer Hitch Receiver

Question:

Im looking to use this on my Outback that has a factory 1 1/4 inch hitch receiver. So I would need an adapter to accept the 2 in rack. Do you see any issues with this? And besides this platform rack, what would your recommendation be for one that can fold away from the car?

You can certainly use hitch adapter # HTAD to fit a 2" cargo carrier like 60x22 etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874 on your Subaru Outback's 1-1/4" receiver. The only downside to using this adapter is that your receiver's capacity will be reduced by 50%.

In order to haul more weight on a cargo carrier, you may want to go with a 1-1/4" carrier such as the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # C18110. This weighs 30lbs and you will not need a hitch adapter; I recommend going this route. There are not any titling cargo carriers for your application at this time. I attached a few demonstration videos for you.
