Should 7-way Connector Be Unplugged Before Pulling Breakaway Switch?

Question:

Will the Tekonsha 90250 brake controller be damaged if I also install a breakaway switch with a separate battery in the trailer? I have heard different opinions about this. Some say that the 7-way connector to the tow vehicle must disconnect prior to applying the breakaway switch to avoid damaging the Tekonsha 90250. Your expert guidance will be appreciated before I place an order.

You will not have any issues using the Tekonsha Prodigy RF Wireless Trailer Brake Controller w/ Bluetooth - 1 to 3 Axles - Proportional # TK94FR on your trailer with a breakaway switch run to a battery on the trailer, but you will want to disconnect the 7-way connector before pulling the switch to avoid any backfeed going into the controller or the factory wiring on your vehicle.

This is standard, as if the breakaway was pulled in an emergency situation the 7-way connector would be pulled out of the vehicle as well.
