Troubleshooting Trailer Backup Lights Hooked Up To 2008 GMC Yukon XL
Question:
Hello I am having a heck of a time I am trying to get my Yukon ready for camping and went to hook up the trailer for a test and all I have Is a constant power to the popup where the backup lights are on. As far as I known I have not had a problem the only thing was I bought a trailer and the lights did not work at all. I have also checked all the fuses and they all seem to be good. Anything you could do would help thanks.

After talking to some of my fellow experts, I may have a solution for you. The cause of your issue may be that the connectors have built up corrosion since the last time you have used them and it is causing the power to be blocked or be sent down a different wire.
You will want to check your connectors to ensure they are free of corrosion and moisture. It is also possible that the wiring may not be connected properly or that it may be damaged. You can use a circuit tester such as the # PTW2993 to see if you are looking at a wiring problem. You will use the tester, after properly grounding it, to probe each wire connection on the adapter. If you are getting a current, a light on the tester will activate.
If that does not work, trying using the tester on your trailer adapter while it is not hooked up to your tow vehicle to see if the pathway to your lights is clear. If this does not take care of the issue, please let me know and I will provide further research.
I have provided a link to our FAQ page on wiring diagrams and troubleshooting 4- and 5-way wiring setups.
