Installing Larger 16 Wheels and Tires on Trailer That Had 15 Wheels
Question:
Hello I am rebuilding an old trailer and I have a couple of questions I am looking at the Dexstar 16inch Wheel part number: AM20758 6 on 5.5 with a wheel hub of 3.625 these rims will fit the hub and bolt pattern just fine. Since this is an old trailer without any documentation I want to make sure that I have a correct fitment. question one is can I switch from the 15inch Tires that are currently on the trailer to a 16inch tire size? see photo for the space that is available question two is what tire can you recommend that will fit the AM20758 in a Bias Ply . The load put on this trailer will be minimum as it is just a small 4foot x 6foot size box trailer and I plan on using it for hauling camping gear and not for any sort of heavy weight hauling So essentially I need the rim and tire to fit this trailer Thank you for your time

I don't see any visible reason that you would not be able to move up to the larger 16" Dexstar Conventional Steel Wheel # AM20758. It will come down to if there is enough clearance with the wider tires that you will need on the 16" wheel.
As we no longer have a 16" Bias Ply Tire, I recommend using the Provider ST235/80R16 Radial Trailer Tire # TTWTRTM2358016E as it will be easier to locate this size if you need to have one replaced due to a flat. You will also want to verify the fitment of this tire as well. It has a section width of 9.25" and height of 30.79". Also as this is a trailer specific tire it will better handle being used on a trailer.
