Can I Haul A Bike That Is 3lbs Over The Weight Limit Of The Swagman Trailhead Bike Rack?
Question:
Hello there! Im interested in purchasing this rack to carry two bikes on my 2020 Nissan Kicks: A mountain bike and a beach cruiser. I understand the weight limit on this rack is 70 lbs 35 lbs per bike. The mountain bike is okay, but unfortunately the beach cruiser weighs 3 lbs over the limit at 38 lbs. Despite being 3 lbs over, can this bike rack still be used? If not, what bike rack can be used to carry my cruiser and mountain bike on my 2020 Nissan kicks? My Nissan kicks only has a class I hitch. Thankyou for your help!

Since the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # S63360 has a weight capacity of 35lbs per bike, it is not recommended to load a bike that weighs 38lbs which is over the specified weight limit. That being said, 3lbs over the weight limit likely will not be a big concern but I will give you a better option that you can look into.
To be on the safe side, especially if you ever decide to upgrade your bikes in the future, you could look into the Hollywood Racks Trail Rider Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # HR200Z. This has a weight capacity of 45lbs per bike and is compatible with the 1-1/4" Class 1 hitch receiver on your 2020 Nissan Kicks. This will be a more solid bike rack and will do a better job of keeping your bikes tight and secured since it is a platform rack. In other words, it uses wheel cradles and ratcheting hooks that attach to the bike frame to keep the bikes from moving around or swinging. Keyed-alike locks are included to keep your bikes and bike carrier locked to the vehicle. I attached a demonstration video for you.
