Uneven Tire Wear on One of Four Tires on 2000 Circle C Living Quarters Horse Trailer

Question:

I read another post about uneven tire wear and your expert wrote something about aged axles having the axles internal rubber cords exposed. Where would one specifically see the internal rubber cords being exposed? I have a 2000 Circle C g/n 2-horse trailer with living quarters. Only the left tire on the front axle shows abnormal wear. I dont have any other specific information at the moment. I can get the tag/label information to provide in a later email. Thank you in advance

The internal rubber cords are not always exposed to where they can be seen on torsion axles. If they are visible you will need to look at the ends of the square tube axle to see if they are exposed. Since you only have uneven wear on the one tire I recommend raising that tire and wheel of the ground.

If you are able to feel play in the wheel when it is lifted then you may either have a bad axle or wheel bearings. If there is play you might be able to see if the wheel and hub are moving on the spindle or if the whole assembly is moving inside the axle tube itself. It may require you to remove the hub and brake assembly to identify it is the hub bearings or the axle tube.

If you do not have play in the wheel when lifted off the ground you may have a bent axle or spindle. This would be harder to visibly identify with the naked eye.
