How to Install the Lend-A-Hand with a Backing Plate

Question:

My Mirada does not have wood stud . It has aluminum bars I am told. I see it mentions a backing bar. Whete does that go, inside the trailer and what keeps that from ripping through the wall??? Very confused.

Installing the Lend-A-Hand # AM-200 using a backing plate would disperse the force across a wider area than if simply installed using bolts into the metal/fiberglass panels, so spreading that weight across a larger area is how you avoid damaging the wall. If you can't locate a door stud to install this into, your best bet would be to use a backing plate that was larger than the area that you're installing the handle to; this unit is 24" tall, so I'd recommend using a plate that was at least 30" tall. You'll want to attach the mounting bolts directly through your coach wall to the mounting plate and secure it with nuts.

I have attached an installation and review video of this unit that might be helpful. It does show how close it can be installed to the door to catch the door frame.
