Adding a 7-Way Trailer Connector to a 2006 Ford F-150 with a Factory 4-Pole
Question:
I am mounting this to my 06 F 150. It came with the factory 4 pin flat connector. In my harness are 2 wires larger guage that are not yet used. The blue I understand, is the brake controller. Ford has a large orange. Im guessing that is for charging my trailer battery?

You are correct. The blue wire would be output from a brake controller and the orange is 12 volt power. You can use a circuit tester, like # PTW2979 if needed, to test the wires to determine which is 12 volt power to be certain. I have included a link to an FAQ article that, in part, talks about the blue and orange wires.
If you want to add a brake controller you will need the brake controller itself and the proper wiring harness. For a brake controller i recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885, because it is reliable, easy to use, and easy to set up. The proper wiring harness is # 3035-P. I have included some video and instruction links for the controller and wiring for you.
