Recommended Weight distribution and Sway Control for a 2017 Toyota Sienna

Question:

I have a Curt 13105 hitch and plan to purchase a travel trailer that is just light of Toyota specs for towing. I wanted to get weight distribution, sway control system. Can you recommend a weight distribution system that would fit my needs? The travel trailer is about 3400lbs, with tongue weight of about 350. I know the 13105 hitch is only rated for 350lbs without weight distribution. With weight distribution will I be able to tolerate a higher tongue weight than 350 e.g., if I have additional gear on the front of the travel trailer near the tongue? The specs state Maximum TW when used with weight distribution: 500 lbsinch but Ive read conflicting things about how the weight distribution affects the capacity for tongue load. I have no idea how much sway I will be dealing with but if it matters I also plan to install airlift in the springs. Thanks!

The Reese Strait-Line # RP66086 would typically be an option I suggest, but since you are towing with a 2017 Toyota Sienna, you do have more limited ground clearance than an SUV or Truck. That being said, we do have a straight bar version of this weight distribution hitch that I do suggest. That being the Reese Strait-Line # RP66082. This will have the same weight ratings of 200 pounds to 600 pounds on the tongue and a max capacity of 10.000 pounds towing. With the estimated tongue weight on the trailer you are considering, this would put you right in the middle of the capacities of the system, which is where you want to be when choosing a weight distribution system. Loading the trailer will also play into the tongue weight, but you can load the trailer back heavy if needed and that would solve excessive tongue weight. The Strait-Line systems also offer great sway control with their Cam System. I included an install video we did with this system and you can see how it wants to pull itself back to straight when used.

It should be noted that Weight Distribution systems do allow vehicles to up the towing and tongue capacities, but you will want to double check your owners manual to see what the max capacity is when weight distribution is used. Towing hitches are generally rated higher than the vehicle and you shouldn't just base you capacities off the hitch ratings.

Air Lift Air Helper Springs like the # AL60732 will also help with sway and vehicle sag when towing. With the maximum psi of 100 pounds, this can significantly help when a load is applied. The minimum of 5 psi will basically make it feel like you don't anything affecting the stock ride quality as well.
