Can the CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers Be Installed Outside the Fenders

Question:

In one of your written comments for one of your Videos showing the installation of a set of CE Smith loading posts, you caution to not have the loading posts extend past the widest part of your trailer. On many boats/trailers, particularly smaller boats like a 14foot or 15foot v-hull, that is impossible to achieve, as the posts will protrude slightly past the widest point of the trailer the fenders. Some of the customer photos in the Reviews posted show what Im referring to. Are you saying that I should absolutely not use these loading posts if they extend past the widest point of my trailer? Thank you.

The CE Smith Post-Style Guide-Ons for Boat Trailers part # CE27637 can be installed so that the posts sit outside the fenders on the trailer. That said, this may or may not put the trailer under a different classification therefore lighting changes could be needed. I recommend measuring the trailer with the posts installed and then checking with local state regulations to ensure you remain legal.
