Recommendations to Prevent Trunk Mount Bike Rack From Scratching Vehicle

Question:

I just got the yakima full back. Other than keeping everything super clean and installing correctly and tightly, do you recommend anything to prevent scratching where the rack contacts the trunk? Ive seen where people have used suction cups, protective tape, etc.

In addition to making sure the rack is correctly installed and the surfaces of the rack and the vehicle that touch each other are immaculately clean, applying a good coat of car wax to the surface of the vehicle where the rack touches is also a great preventative measure.

Another option would be to use a paint protection film product. 3M makes Clear Paint Protection Film available in various widths that looks promising. You'd apply the film to the clean surface of the vehicle where the # Y02634 Yakima FullBack trunk mount bike rack touches the vehicle. This is the same stuff that many folks apply to the front of the vehicle hood to protect it from bugs and other road debris.

You can find the film at your local auto parts store or online.
